Commonwealth Joe Increased Landing Page Conversions by 125% Through Continuous CRO Testing

Commonwealth Joe wanted to turn more website visitors into coffee subscribers without relying solely on additional advertising spend. Bluum designed a dedicated subscription experience in Unbounce and built an ongoing CRO program around it, continuously testing imagery, messaging, offers, page structure, and calls to action based on actual user behavior.

The iterative approach produced wins throughout the engagement, including a 57% lift from hero image testing and a 28% lift from a holiday landing page variant. Continued experimentation ultimately produced the strongest result of the program, a 125% conversion uplift at 96% statistical confidence.

The Challenge

Commonwealth Joe's coffee subscription offered an opportunity to build recurring ecommerce revenue, but converting a visitor into a subscriber required more consideration than a standard product purchase.

Shoppers needed to understand the subscription, choose the coffee that fit their preferences, see the value of subscribing, and feel confident enough to commit to a recurring order. Rather than sending traffic through the standard ecommerce experience, Bluum set out to create a dedicated conversion path specifically designed around subscription acquisition.

The goal wasn't simply to launch a better landing page. It was to create an experience that could continually evolve as real customer behavior revealed what made visitors more likely to convert.

The Pain Points

The subscription model introduced additional friction into the buying process. Bluum needed to simplify that experience while creating a testing framework that could continually identify new opportunities to improve conversion performance.

Turning Interest Into Subscription Sign-Ups
A subscription requires a greater commitment than a one-time coffee purchase. The landing page needed to communicate the value of subscribing while making the path toward conversion feel simple and intuitive.

Simplifying the Customer Journey
Visitors needed a clear path from discovering Commonwealth Joe to choosing their coffee and completing their subscription. Messaging, product placement, page structure, and calls to action all had the potential to create or remove friction.

Understanding What Actually Influenced Conversion
Rather than redesigning the page based on assumptions, Commonwealth Joe needed a structured testing program that could isolate individual changes and identify what genuinely moved conversion rate.

Adapting the Experience Over Time
Customer behavior and promotions changed throughout the year. Bluum needed a landing page environment flexible enough to test seasonal messaging, new offers, imagery, and conversion strategies without rebuilding the entire experience.

The Results

Bluum's CRO program produced a series of measurable wins across different elements of the subscription experience. Instead of relying on a single redesign, each experiment generated new information that could be applied to the next iteration of the page.

125% Overall Conversion Uplift
The strongest test of the program introduced visual cues emphasizing customer savings. The new treatment produced a 125% conversion uplift at 96% statistical confidence, demonstrating the significant impact that clearer value communication could have on customer behavior.

57% Lift From Hero Image Testing
Bluum tested the Roaster's Choice hero imagery on the Choose Your Beans experience to understand how prominently featuring the product could influence conversion behavior. The challenger generated a 57% lift over the previous variant.

28% Lift From Holiday Landing Page Variant
Bluum adapted the landing page for the holiday season and continued testing rather than assuming seasonal creative would perform better. The holiday variant produced a 28% uplift and was declared the winning experience before Bluum moved on to the next test.

Additional Wins Continued Across the Page
The larger improvements weren't isolated successes. Additional testing produced an 11% increase in conversion rate from hero imagery and a 6% lift after introducing clearer "Select Your Coffee" language, giving Bluum additional insight into how imagery and directional messaging influenced subscription behavior.

The Strategy

Bluum designed Commonwealth Joe's subscription experience in Unbounce around a dedicated conversion journey rather than sending customers through a standard ecommerce path. The experience helped customers understand the subscription, choose their coffee, and move toward checkout while giving Bluum the flexibility to continuously test individual elements without rebuilding the entire customer journey.

From there, Bluum treated the page as an evolving conversion environment. Tests explored hero imagery, headlines, product positioning, seasonal creative, calls to action, free-shipping messaging, and the way savings were communicated. Variables were tested individually where possible so the team could understand what was actually responsible for changes in performance rather than making multiple changes at once.

Those learnings continuously informed the next experiment. A Roaster's Choice hero image produced a 57% lift, while a holiday-specific variant later generated a 28% uplift. Other tests explored clearer product-selection language and different hero imagery, producing additional measurable improvements and helping Bluum better understand what motivated visitors to move through the subscription experience.

As the testing program matured, Bluum became increasingly experimental with how value was communicated. Adding stronger visual cues around savings ultimately produced the largest win of the program, a 125% conversion uplift at 96% statistical confidence. Rather than ending with a single winning page, each successful experiment became the foundation for the next test.

“Bluum brought a really thoughtful, data-driven approach to our landing pages. They were constantly testing, learning, and finding new ways to improve the customer experience and increase conversions. It was exciting to see those changes translate into real, measurable results.”

A landing page shouldn't be finished when it launches. That's when you finally have the data to start making it better.

For Commonwealth Joe, conversion growth didn't come from one massive redesign. It came from continually challenging the experience, testing everything from hero imagery and seasonal creative to messaging, offers, and value cues, then letting customer behavior determine what stayed.

The result was a series of measurable wins, including a 57% lift from hero image testing, a 28% lift from a holiday landing page variant, and ultimately a 125% conversion uplift from the program's strongest test.

Creative That Converts

Bluum treated Commonwealth Joe’s subscription page as an ongoing experiment rather than a finished design. Hero imagery, savings cues, seasonal treatments, product-selection messaging, free-shipping messaging, and calls to action were continuously tested, with each winner informing the next iteration. The strongest experiment ultimately produced a 125% conversion uplift.

A subtle plug for our friends.
